ShoreSmarts is a comparison tool. The public search flow does not require a ShoreSmarts account, and ShoreSmarts does not take payment for excursions.
Information used for searches
When you use cruise or destination search, the site processes the information needed to return relevant excursions. That can include a cruise line, ship, sail date, itinerary URL, ports, destination, party size, excursion search terms, sort choices, and tours added to a plan.
Search requests are sent to ShoreSmarts server endpoints. Those endpoints may query cruise-line sources, Viator, GetYourGuide-related data services, or web-search services to build results. If an API request fails and server error logging is configured, an error record can include the route, request method, error details, query parameters, and request body so the failure can be diagnosed.
Information stored in your browser
ShoreSmarts uses localStorage rather than an account to preserve search and planning state on the device. Current keys include:
- ss_session: ports, cruise information, party size, sorting, form values, and in-progress comparison state.
- ss_last_cruise_search: the last cruise line, ship, and date used to repopulate cruise search.
- ss_recent_views: up to four recently viewed sailings, including ports and itinerary URL.
- excursionpro_saves: excursion plans saved in the browser.
- ss_search_mode and ss_app_mode: the last search interface or mode used.
- ss_ships_cache: a cached ship list, normally refreshed after 30 days.
- ep_search_cache: cached sailing-search results, with a six-month expiration in the current code.
This information stays in that browser until the site removes it, it expires where an expiration applies, or you clear site data. Starting a fresh search from some ShoreSmarts links removes ss_session and ss_last_cruise_search.
Affiliate links and external booking
Local-tour results can link to Viator, GetYourGuide, or an operator's own site. Some links contain referral identifiers. ShoreSmarts may receive a commission if you follow a referral link and complete a booking. The external provider receives the information you submit on its site and applies its own privacy policy, cookies, payment process, and tracking practices.
ShoreSmarts does not receive your full payment-card number through the comparison pages. Booking, payment, cancellation, and traveler details are handled by the external provider you choose.
Analytics, cookies, and support email
The current public pages do not include a dedicated third-party analytics tag and ShoreSmarts does not intentionally set a first-party cookie in the public browser code reviewed for this notice. Hosting infrastructure and external providers may still process standard request information such as an IP address, browser information, timestamps, and referring page.
If you email support, ShoreSmarts receives your email address and whatever information you include in the message. Do not send payment-card details or passport information by email.
Your choices
You can clear ShoreSmarts localStorage through your browser's site-data controls. You can also avoid following external booking links and contact an external provider directly about data it holds.
